The Language of Trauma

The mind and body are connected in trauma recovery.

I remember sitting in a crowded room, smiling on the outside while my insides were on fire. Someone behind me laughed, just a laugh, but my shoulders tensed, my stomach flipped, and my palms turned cold.

I wanted to run. But I didn’t know why.

Then I realized something: my body remembered what I did not, a moment from the past, a moment of fear, a wound from a time long gone.

That’s how trauma works.

It doesn’t knock. It remembers.

You’re Not Making This Up

Let’s get something out in the open.

In today’s world, mental health is often misunderstood even frowned upon.

It’s treated like a weakness, or worse, a moral failure. But the truth is: most people are struggling with something.

Let’s talk numbers:

  • 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. lives with a mental health condition.

  • Over 70% of people with trauma symptoms never seek help.

  • Anxiety, PTSD, and depression are so common, but still so hidden.

The silence is not strength. The stigma is not the truth.

You are not broken, you’re human. And humans carry pain in very real places.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Wired

The human body is not fragile, and it is phenomenal. You are more fearfully created and intricately designed than most people realize.

Let me show you: To bring a clearer perspective, your Brain Is a Bio-Supercomputer

  • Speed: Your brain’s neurons transmit signals up to 268 miles per hour (431 km/h).

  • Connections: The brain contains 100 billion neurons, each with up to 10,000 synaptic connections, a network more complex than the entire Internet.

  • Data Capacity: Neuroscientists estimate the brain’s storage capacity to be around 2.5 petabytes (2,500 terabytes), roughly equivalent to 3 million hours of TV.

  • Your brain contains 100 billion neurons, tiny data messengers that talk to your body faster than lightning.

  • It communicates with the rest of your body through over 37 miles of nerves.

  • Your vascular system, the network of blood vessels, stretches over 60,000 miles.
(Yes, that’s enough to circle the Earth... twice!)

God didn’t throw you together. He crafted you.

And like any supercomputer, the computer will malfunction if the programming is corrupted!

“I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:14

The Body Speaks. The Spirit Responds.

You’re not just bones and breath.

You are body, soul, and spirit; all three speak.

When trauma happens, it doesn’t just mark the memory. It maps the muscles, the gut, the breath, and the nervous system, like a virus on a computer.

That’s why you feel tired in a safe space.
Why does your heart race at the sound of a slammed door?
Why does your stomach ache when you're anxious?

“The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.” —Proverbs 20:27

Your trauma isn't imaginary. It's a signal. And it’s sacred.

3 Sacred Steps to Begin Healing

1. Listen to the Signals
Your body isn’t betraying you. It’s protecting you.
Ask: What is this feeling trying to tell me?

2. Invite the Holy Spirit In
Place your hand on your heart. Breathe. Pray:
“God, meet me in this memory. Speak truth into this pain.”

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit?” 1 Corinthians 6:19

3. Rewire Your Inner World
Again, you teach your body what safety feels like through movement, breath, and Scripture.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

Final Word

You’re not weak. You’re not failing. You’re not beyond help.

You are a living, breathing, complex masterpiece wired for survival, created for restoration.

I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17

🕊️ Your Next Step

✅ Stop apologizing for how your body reacts.
✅ Start listening.
✅ Speak the truth.
✅ Reach out.

And if you need someone who gets it, someone who’s been there, I’m right here.

Let’s rebuild your peace.

One signal, one prayer, one brave step at a time.

SELAH!
